Unexpected Liverpool

St George’s Church, Everton, Liverpool

Monday June 1st-Friday June 5th 2020

This tour explores the fascinating places of interest that Liverpool offers off the regular tourist routes.

Based at the unusual Mercure Atlantic Tower Hotel, overlooking the River Mersey beside Pier Head, the programme will include – among much else – a high-level view of the city from the Radio City Tower and a below-ground exploration on the Old Dock Tour.

Among the unlikely buildings included will be a cinema that’s now a riding school, the Park Palace Ponies, and The Florrie, a celebrated Victorian boys’ club that gave Gerry Marsden a start in his music career.

The itinerary includes the two remaining iron churches designed by Thomas Rickman for John Cragge of the Mersey Iron Foundry – St George’s, Everton and St Michael-in-the-Hamlet, Toxteth.

The full tour outline is currently in preparation and will be online in September.

Everyone on the current mailing list will be notified as soon as booking opens.  Newcomers are very welcome:  if you’d like to receive an alert by e-mail or post, please contact –
